Library and Information Studies is especially suitable for this exercise because it naturally connects information behavior, reading practices, library service use, digital access, user experience, information literacy, scholarly communication, discovery systems and the social role of libraries. It also supports quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods designs. In this section, examples cover various types of library context, as well as digital and physical library environments.
In library and information studies, research is often framed by information behavior theory, information-seeking models, information literacy frameworks, user-experience approaches, digital access and inclusion models, scholarly communication frameworks and, where relevant, technology acceptance models for digital library systems. These frameworks define constructs such as search behavior, access, trust in information sources, digital literacy, service quality, satisfaction, inclusion or information use and these are measured through usage records, search tasks, survey scales, observational data, interviews, document analysis or mixed evidence from physical and digital library environments.
Note: The entries in the Methodology are intentionally general and indicative. They are meant to illustrate plausible methodological directions, not to exhaust the full range of possible methods, model variants or analytic choices available to the researcher. Researchers are not expected to apply all of the methodological tools listed in column Methodology in a single study.
